A long narrow lot and the desire for natural light and privacy were the driving forces behind this design. Taking inspiration from traditional urban houses a series of semi-attached or detached structures- a carriage house, entry courtyard, main house, and backyard cabana were developed.
Much like a piece of music or a film, this basic layout was then used to choreograph a sense of discovery and variety as one moves through the space, going from more enclosed traditional spaces at the front of the home, to larger and more dynamic spaces at the back. This concept was continued with the choice of materials and landscape design.
