Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects of Austin, TX Receives Houzz’s 2012 ‘Best Of Remodeling’ Award

First-Ever Survey & Analysis of More than 1.2 Million Members Reveals Top-Rated Professionals and Current Design Trends from Across the Country

Austin, TX — March 20, 2012 – Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects of Austin, Texas has been awarded “Best Of Remodeling” 2012 by Houzz, the leading online platform for residential remodeling and design. The “site specific residnetial design” firm was chosen by the more than 1.2 million registered members of the Houzz community.

The Houzz “Best Of Remodeling” award for 2012 is given in two categories: Customer Satisfaction and Design. Customer Satisfaction award winners are based on homeowner members who rated their experience working with remodeling professionals in 12 categories ranging from architects, and interior designers to contractors and other residential remodeling professionals. Design award winners’ work was the most popular among the 1.2 million members, also known as “Houzzers,” who saved more than 16.5 million professional images to their personal ideabooks via the Houzz site and iPad/iPhone app.

“With 3.5 million monthly unique users and 80 million monthly page views, Houzz has rapidly become the largest community of active remodelers, providing homeowners and design enthusiasts with first-hand advice from Houzzers who have been through the renovating and decorating process,” said Liza Hausman, vice president of marketing for Houzz. “This is a real stamp of approval for Hugh and his team from the Houzz community and we’re thrilled to welcome them to this elite group of ‘Best Of’ winners.”

With Houzz, homeowners can identify not only top-rated professionals, but also those whose work visually aligns with their own design goals. Homeowners can also evaluate professionals by contacting them directly on the Houzz platform, asking questions about their work and evaluating their responses to questions from others in the Houzz community.

About Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects:

Collaborative Design Process
Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects approaches each project as a collaboration between the architect and client. Starting with the goals and dreams of the client, we like to structure the early design meetings as brainstorming sessions, where everyone is given a voice, and all suggestions are given, considered and explored.

Even in situations where the design preconceptions are strong, we feel that the most appropriate and freshest solutions are typically not what the architects or clients expected at the beginning of the process. For us, the best compliment to give or receive is “I would never have thought of that on my own!

Site Specific Design
Whether the design is for a hill country ranch house, a downtown loft, or a single family home on its own lot, each project is unique. Just like the dreams and personality of the clients shape each particular design, so does the site. We take great care in having the design take into account issues such as sun and breeze location, slope, views, and the character of the surrounding environment.

Our philosophy is that a design need not mimic its surroundings in order to fit in, but should tap into the deeper character of its particular place and time, resulting in a work of architecture that creates a special sense of place. To further this goal, we offer both architectural and site design services.

About Houzz

A husband from Maylasia who likes modern architecture, a wife from Nebraska who likes traditional classic wood homes, and an old house in need of extensive renovations inspired this major renovation and addition project.

Our approach was to simplify the existing front structure and design the addition to be a contrasting (yet compatible) reflection of the clients aesthetic and culture. The color white was used to unify the new and the old, as was the attention to proportion and minimal crisp detailing.

This house was selected for the 2010 Austin AIA Homes Tour, and was given 5 stars, the highest award for energy efficiency from the City of Austin’s Green Building Program.

This house was a result of long design process that began as a house for myself and my family and then evolved with the sale of the lot to a developer. Like all of the speculative work that we have done, this house was designed as if it was for a real client, rather than taking a “middle of the road” approach.

The long rectangular corner lot was inspiration for the homes basic geometry. The site’s slope and alley gave inspiration to the location of the half-basement garage and multi-level organization. The desire to open up to a large Oak tree and view on the west side gave rise to the large overhang the windows. This home is a 5 Star Austin Energy rated house.
